Our History

My name is MacKenzie (Bowden) Knierim. I am the owner, buyer, and CEO of The Southern Rose, which makes me sound a lot fancier than I really am. I began in the retail sector (specifically gift) as a young high-school student working for a gift shop. I wasn’t 100% sure of the degree I wanted but knew I loved meeting people and helping them find unique items for gifts or for themselves. After high school, I headed off to continue playing softball at William Woods University in Fulton, MO.

While attending WWU, I studied Business Management with concentrations in Marketing and Advertising. I completed my Masters in Business Administration through WWU in 2015.

After graduating in 2014, I began working for Veterans United Home Loans in Columbia, MO.

On the side, I ran a small shop many of you remember as “Wild Rose.” It’s hard to believe this crazy, big dream of mine began in my parent’s basement while I milked out the “free rent” as long as possible. Ah, the good ‘ol days
